I was prescribed anti-anxiety and antidepressant meds at a psychiatric clinic: Lexotan and Depas.
The first side effect I noticed was constipation. I used to have daily bowel movements, but they started coming every two or three days, sometimes even four.
The doctor had warned me this could happen, so I used over-the-counter constipation meds, which worked and put my mind at ease.
The anti-anxiety and antidepressant meds I got didn’t make me too sleepy, which was good.
Depas makes you sleepy, but since I took it before bed, it wasn’t an issue. Lexotan is a non-drowsy anti-anxiety med, so I could take it during the day without problems.
Another side effect was hand tremors. I’m not sure if it’s really from the meds, but the doctor said it’s possible.
My hands shake when holding chopsticks or writing, so I can’t eat neatly or write cleanly anymore. Anything I hold trembles.
I couldn’t eat with bowls or miso soup containers anymore. I can only eat with close family who understand.
I talked to my doctor and reduced Lexotan, but the symptoms didn’t improve.
It might not just be a side effect—it could be essential tremor, a condition that’s not unusual for my age.
It’s not a life-threatening illness, so I haven’t had it checked out yet.
