In my early 20s, I went through an incredibly tough time.
Simple things like taking a bath or caring about my hair and skin felt overwhelming. Every day was a struggle just to get by.
Desperate to feel better, I read books on health and ones written by psychiatrists. One day, I came across a line in a psychiatrist’s book that said something like, “When you’re depressed, even bathing can feel daunting, but try to bathe every day and stay clean—it helps.” So, I made an effort to shower daily, no matter how hard it was.
I was constantly anxious over the smallest things, couldn’t sleep well, and had strong suicidal thoughts, often thinking, “I just want to die.”
Looking back now, I think, “I really pushed through… Every day was so overwhelming.”
