A year ago, my husband, in his late 40s, started showing depression symptoms while working as a middle manager in a tough job. He went to a psychiatrist.
Back then, his role was stressful, and he was exhausted from constant unpaid overtime.
I couldn’t stand seeing him like that, so I found a nearby psychiatric clinic and booked an appointment. I was curious and went with him to the visit.
After filling out a questionnaire, he met with a male doctor. The doctor listened so casually, like it was just a chat, and my husband seemed able to talk freely.
For the first visit, we brought a document listing our home situation (just the two of us), his job details, hobbies, and mood changes. The doctor really praised it.
He got meds and went to appointments every couple of weeks. His workplace also got better, and after about two months, he was done with treatment.
Some people might hesitate at first, but especially for men who struggle to vent work stress, I think easing symptoms at a clinic before they worsen is really effective.
I recommend making and bringing a document like we did.
