A few years ago, my husband developed mild depression. His job was so hectic that he lost his appetite and started having nightmares, jolting awake at night. At first, I thought his late hours were just killing his appetite, but then he started losing weight and waking up from nightmares. I knew it was serious.
With no days off, I was really worried and wondered what we could do as a family.
First, I decided to talk to his direct boss about the workplace and ask for a lighter workload. It felt a bit bold, but his boss admitted he’d been concerned too. He promised to reassign some tasks and keep a close eye on my husband’s condition.
My husband was taking over-the-counter meds. I also made an effort to talk more with him after he got home.
Thanks to his coworkers, his work calmed down, and the nightmares started to fade.
The key is to speak up and keep supporting. You have to work hard to remove the causes of depression.
